How the Virtual Studio works

The Virtual Studio is a walk-through 3D model of the DISTANCE // ZERO television set. It runs live in your browser: every camera move, light and screen is drawn in real time, nothing is a video.

It is a preview. “Simulate on air” plays a full-screen simulation on the page; nothing is recorded or broadcast. The first show airs on 27 January 2027.

The set

A curved desk for the two hosts and their guest: DJ Andy'K (Andrej Kneisl) on the Vienna side, Georgie Walker on the Melbourne side, the guest in the middle. Behind them a curved LED wall with the hanging D//0 logo (the official artwork, cut out as solid letters ten centimetres deep), a light pylon for each city showing its local time, the DJ booth on the Melbourne side and a black concert grand on the Vienna side.

The lighting has four looks: Broadcast, Vienna (warm amber), Melbourne (cool ice blue) and Music. The studio listens: while music or the piano plays, the LED strips, beams and logo glow follow the sound.

Cameras

Each camera has a red tally lamp that lights while its shot is “on air” in the simulation.

Backstage

Behind the LED wall is a small lounge: three armchairs, a coffee table with coffee and sekt, an espresso machine, a drinks fridge and an arc lamp. Four monitors carry live pictures from the studio cameras, as a real green room would. Three doors lead to the dressing rooms of Andrej, Georgie and the guest. To get there, tap the lit BACKSTAGE sign at the Vienna end of the LED wall (or press B): you walk there at eye level, round the end of the wall, along an amber line on the floor to the lounge door marked “No entry”, which opens as you come. Choose any studio shot to walk back out the same way.

Security cameras

Two small security cameras record all the time; their red lamp never goes out. SEC 1 hangs high on the Vienna-side wall and covers the whole studio. SEC 2 watches the dressing-room doors backstage. Their shots show what they see, as a recording: black and white, with the camera's name, REC and the time in Vienna. They are never part of the broadcast.

Music

The Music station plays the show's soundtrack, streamed from distancezeroshow.com, and a playable piano. The DJ Andy'K tab plays his releases straight from djandykofficial.com. Sound starts only when you press play, and when music starts the camera goes to the DJ booth.

The DJ booth: DJ Andy'K AKX 2026

The booth on the Melbourne side is the DJ Andy'K AKX 2026, software by Andy'K Music Lab: two media players with large jog wheels and tilted touch screens either side of a four-channel mixer carrying the DJ Andy'K logo. Open Music station → DJ booth to play it:

ControlWhat it does
TrackAny track of the soundtrack or of DJ Andy'K's releases, for each deck
▶ / ❚❚Start or pause the deck. Its platter in the studio turns while it plays
CUEWhile playing: back to the cue point and stop. While stopped: sets the cue point where the deck is
ChannelThe deck's channel fader; in the studio, the mixer's channel 2 and 3 faders move with it
CrossfaderBlends Deck 1 into Deck 2; in the middle both play at full level

The full manual: DJ Andy'K AKX 2026 — Manual.

The lights and the LED wall follow the mix. Only one source plays at a time: starting the soundtrack stops the decks, starting a deck pauses the soundtrack, and the on-air simulation stops them.

Simulate on air

A full-screen simulation of a broadcast: the opener and logo video on the wall, then the show, with lower thirds, a ticker, jingles and the director's camera cuts. It is a demonstration only. The bar at the bottom works like the show's own control room:

Each button shows what is running. Esc closes an open list first, then ends the simulation.

On-air beacons: red rotating beacons, two on the floor either side of the stage and a small one over the backstage door. While the show is about to start (the countdown with the theme song) they turn slowly; in the last three seconds they flash three times, each flash with a tone; then the studio is on air and they turn bright until the simulation ends.
